Immerse yourself in the history and culture of Morocco as you follow the trail of the Old Salt Caravan from Marrakech through the Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs to the great sand seas of the Sahara Desert. We won’t take you all the way to Timbuctu, but we will take you off the beaten tourist path in this tour. NOTE: The itinerary below is a sample. We refer to this one as our BIG Morocco tour and you can see why. You will visit the imperial cities, the mountains, the valleys, and the desert in this tour. Although you visit a lot of places, the pace is slow enough that you will actually be able enjoy the sites (not just take a picture and go) and leaves room for you to truly experience the Moroccan way of life — not just observe it from a bus window. NOTE: Like all of our tours, this one is customizable to your interests and arrival/departure cities. Optional extension to Chefchaouen is available upon request.

After breakfast, today, you will begin the final leg of your journey back to Marrakech. You’ll continue along the Draa Valley until you once again reach Ouarzazate. From here it is just a short drive to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ait Ben Haddou. If this impressive ksar looks familiar, it may be because it starred (or at least served as a backdrop) for many films and TV shows such as Gladiator, Jewel of the Nile, Lawrence of Arabia, and Game of Thrones. Upon your arrival here, you’ll stop first for a panoramic view of this “mud city” and then head in for a closer look. You’ll cross the riverbed to the entrance and then climb the steep and winding streets to the granary, or “bank” at the top for amazing panoramic views of the whole region. After admiring the impressive views, you’ll make your way back down to your vehicle and travel once more over the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’ Tichka pass reaching Marrakech by the early evening. Your tour manager will drop you off at your accommodations in Marrakech and, once you are safely delivered, will bid you au revoir until your next trip to Morocco.
